I just signed up, why can I not post articles?
Posting is disabled for all new users. To gain posting access you must use 50% of your account bandwidth and then contact us for permission changes. This rule will be evaluated on a case by case basis for low volume users.
Do you offer demo accounts?
The plain and simple answer is no. We offer a 4GB account for $4.50 which is a very low cost method of trying out our service.
What does the error “502 access denied to your node” mean?
It means that your bandwidth has been used or your username and password is incorrect.
What is the address of your news server?
The address is news.usenetguide.com.
What ports can I use to connect to?
The standard port for usenet is 119. However you may point your newsreader to any of the following ports: 23, 25, 80, 119 and 3128.
The following ports allow you to force your packets out a particular connection of ours:
- port(s): 7000 routing: ServerCentral (path1)
- port(s): 8000 routing: Cogent (path1)
- port(s): 9000 routing: BtN (path1)
How often do you rebill for monthly accounts?
Customers are rebilled on the anniversary date of their signup.
What are your policies on Spam/EMP/ECP?
Spam is not tolerated at all, this includes Excessive Multi Posting (EMP) and Excessive Cross Posting (ECP). You can find out more about our spam policies on our AUP and the TOS.
What are your refund policies?
Our refund policies are outlined in the AUP and the TOS.
How do I cancel my account?
Simply contact support and we can ensure the account is cancelled for you.
How do you bill me on my Credit Card?
Charges appearing on your credit card will be listed as A-V Tronics.
How can I update my Credit Card?
You would need to contact support to change your credit card information.
How do I report spam/abuse?
Send email to our abuse team at abuse [at] usenetguide [.] com. We will not accept attachments as part of your abuse report and all mail with attachments is filtered. HTML Mail is received by support as an attachment, we will not accept HTML mail. Simply include the complete headers of the post(s) with your email.
Do you offer telephone support?
At this time we offer email support only.
How many newsgroups do you carry?
On the date this page was written we have 67433 groups.
Do you have a list of groups you carry?
Yes we do, you may download a list here (updated Feb 4 2008).
What kind of speeds are typical from your server?
Speeds can and will vary by user, we do not limit bandwidth in any way.
How can I request a group to be added?
You can contact support to get your group added.
How many connections do you allow?
We recommend no more than 4 connections to the server at once but you may have up to 8.
Do you accept cancel or control messages?
The plain and simple answer is no.
Are there any limits to posting?
There are no limits for posting, however please remember to follow the AUP and the TOS. Posting does not count towards any limit.
Are headers free or are they part of the account limit?
Headers count towards your download limit.
