My ISP (Shaw Cable) recently announced that users are supposed to have a 50% speed increase so I decided to test it out.

My last speed test for UsenetGuide showed up with a peak speed of 8.82Mbps which is darn close to the (then) advertised 10Mbps limit when you include overhead.

I reconfigured my router for 10/100 speeds as previously it was simply set to 10Mbps full.

I opened up Newsbin Pro and started download three binaries at once. Speeds were in the mid 14Mbps range.

What?

They shouldn’t be in the mid 14’s. Perhaps mid to high 13’s with packet overhead. So I opened it up to 4 simultaneous threads and I got to see the speeds below.

18.22 Mbps from 4 threads. Nice. I’ve done speed tests from other premium providers and some of them don’t give these kinds of speeds.

No speed limits here!

As I’ve said before, UsenetGuide offers amazing speed and completion. Here is a screenshot I took tonight using Newsbin Pro.
This was taken using 10Mbps cable (Shaw cable in Canada)

The download was with 3 simultaneous threads.
Not too shabby I’d say.

Welcome to Usenetguide’s new site.

It was decided some time ago to change the business model that Usenetguide uses. Of course to make those changes required a number of large changes to the site. So it was decided that the launch of the new business model would be accompanied with a new site.

Since it’s all up to me to decide how to do things around here I chose to use a blog format for the site just for the ease of use and the ability to use plugins.

I realize that this choice may cause some confusion so I am busy editing the site to ensure that everything is logical and where it is supposed to be.

You will find with the new business model that many things have changed. One of the most significant changes is the removal of the yearly block plans. This wasn’t an oversight, honestly it was intentional. The block plans created some issues which I won’t discuss here, but needless to say they are gone and they will not be coming back.

Our new plans offer rollver bandwidth which is what many of our users wanted to see. Rollver works like this.

If you purchase a 15GB account in January and only use 10GB then in Febuary you would have 20GB available. If in Febuary you only used 3GB then in March you would have 32GB available. This business model ensures that users get what they are paying for.

I hope you enjoy the new look and the new business format.
